Blood Collection System

BD Vacutainer Push Button Blood Collection Set, the only blood collection system with push button technology, is designed to be simple, easy to use, ergonomic and to help protect healthcare workers from accidental needlestick injuries. Safety-engineered with split-second activation, BD Vacutainer Push Button Blood Collection Set is ideal for high-risk environments. Intended for blood collection and short-term infusion.

Re-usable safety scalpel

The BD Bard-Parker Protected Blade System features a reusable metal handle and protected surgical blades. Designed with the weight and feel of conventional products, the handle is also more durable for extended life. The unique blade cartridge design allows quick and easy assembly and disposal without the use of forceps or exposure to the blade. One-handed activation of the safety shield is made easy with a top-button design, convenient for left or right-handed users, and the shield locks to provide protection before and after use. The company also offers the same safety shield design in a full line of disposable scalpels.

Safety IV catheter

The passive Introcan Safety IV Catheter, already designed to minimize accidental needlesticks without requiring user activation, has been enhanced to reduce pain in patients and improve injection accuracy for clinicians. The original safety features that make Introcan easy to use are still key components of the system. A patented safety clip is used to shield the needle tip and cannot be bypassed. The improved back-cut beveled needle means less force is required for insertion and minimal risk of damaging the catheter tip.

Sharps safety procedure trays

Cardinal Health offers a full selection of Safe-T-Trays – diagnostic trays designed to reduce the risks associated with diagnostic procedures, enhance procedural flexibility and convenience, and help ensure OSHA compliance. Safe-T-Trays are available for lumber puncture, myelogram, arthrogram, amniocentesis, bone marrow biopsy and soft tissue biopsy. Safe-T-Centesis devices and trays offer advanced safety features for paracentesis and thoracentesis procedures.

Safety lancets

Medline Preferred safety lancets are simple and safe for both the healthcare professional and the patient. The needle retracts automatically and locks out for extra safety, protecting patients and healthcare professionals from needlestick injuries and preventing cross-contamination. Different sizes are available allowing health professionals to derive the proper amount of blood for the capillary test. A double spring action provides greater patient comfort by firing and retracting the lancet with spring action. The lancets are ergonomic and easy to handle with side ribs allowing for safe handling.

Central venous access kits

The Arrow Maximal Barrier Precautions Tray with ARROWg+ard Blue PLUS, now upgraded with Hi-Lite Orange tinted ChloraPrep, is an integrated system for combating the five sources of catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI): environmental contamination, skin flora, post-placement subcutaneous tract infection, intraluminal contamination, and hematogenous seeding. The Arrow Maximal Barrier Precautions Tray also reduces risk by including protective gear and upgraded sharps safety devices.

IAP monitoring device

The AbViser AutoValve from Wolfe Tory Medical is a needle-free, non-invasive, closed system that delivers consistent, standardized, reproducible intra abdominal pressure measurements. Wolfe Tory has incorporated a white stripe on all the AbViser tubing used for measuring IAP. This change is in response to The Joint Commission 2006 Sentinel Event Alert regarding tubing misconnections and the potential for errors. The white stripe allows the clinician to identify the tubing in the AbViser IAP Monitoring kit, reducing chances of a mishap.

Weighted safety scalpel

The Sandel Safety Scalpel is a disposable Weighted Safety Scalpel with removable Time Out sleeve to comply with JCAHO/AORN Correct Site Surgery policy. The Safety Shield slides into the body of the Safety Scalpel so as to not impair a surgeon’s vision. The sliding mechanism can be activated by both right or left handed surgeons. Sandel’s disposable Z-Tray helps protect staff from sharps injuries by establishing a neutral or safe zone where sharps are placed one at a time for retrieval.

Safety syringe

To help address the challenges associated with medication errors and syringe labeling, Inviro Medical has added an integral write-on stripe, InviroSTRIPE, to its complete line of manually retractable InviroSNAP! Safety Syringes. This feature enables healthcare workers to record critical information directly onto the syringe barrel or provides a consistent location for pre-printed labels, thus helping to reduce risks for injectable medication errors and meeting 2007 Joint Commission medication labeling requirements.

Suture-free catheter stabilization device

The Bard StatLock PICC Plus stabilization device eliminates clinician exposure to needlesticks from suturing of catheters. By replacing suture with a patented retainer and anchor pad, this "suture-free" approach removes the need to suture virtually all kinds of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). Because they eliminate sharps injuries from suture needles, StatLock-type devices are specifically recognized by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the federal Needlestick Safety & Prevention Act. Studies show StatLock is also faster and easier to apply than suture, and lasts longer than tape stabilization.

Fascia closure

The 360º Fascia Closure Device is a safe suturing device to prevent inadvertent suture needlestick injuries to surgeons, OR nurses, patients, and other hospital personnel. The 360º Fascia Closure Device provides an easy to use, ergonomic, and reusable device that can be sterilized in the hospital, and utilizes an economical and disposable needle-protected suture cartridge. It enables gold standard wound closure ... quickly, easily, and safely. This Engineered Sharps Injury Prevention (ESIP) device enables hospitals to comply with OSHA regulations and federal and state needlestick prevention and safety laws.

Drug delivery systems

Hospira’s ADD-Vantage System offers a broad range of ready-to-use premixes, including cardiovascular drugs, anti-infectives and therapeutic drugs. Needle- and latex-free, this product family is designed to decrease preparation time in the pharmacy and reduce delivery time to the patient. Hospira uses a variety of techniques to enhance product labeling, which helps ensure proper drug identification, including 100 percent bar coding. An automated dispensing storage machine helps reduce labor and handling, and unused doses are returned for redistribution, eliminating waste.

Safety huber needle

Kawasumi’s K-Shield safety Huber is clinician-friendly and easy to use, especially when activating the safety mechanism. The audible click notes the needle is locked and enclosed. K-Shield sets are OSHA compliant and have a non-DEHP fluid path. They are available in both straight tubing and needleless "Y" site offerings. Pinch clamps are color-coded according to needle gauge. For enhanced patient comfort, the K-Shield features a lubricated needle which minimizes irritation while the port is being accessed or when the needle is removed. The new product also has one of the lowest profiles in the industry, making dressings simple and efficient.

Non-invasive surgical
skin closure

3M’s Steri-Strip S Surgical Skin
Closure is a simple, non-invasive alternative to skin staples, skin sutures, and skin adhesives. This product provides quick skin closures with good cosmetic results due to its unique, interlaced design. The interlaced design provides mechanical wound approximation while dispersing tension more evenly along the skin. The soft polyurethane pads combined with polyester filaments create a secure closure on most any length of wound. The Steri-Strip S Skin Closure can be used for low tension lacerations or surgical incisions, as an adjunct to suture closure for higher tension wounds or as reinforcement for wounds after early suture or staple removal.

Blood collection system

The Sarstedt S-Monovette is an enclosed multiple-sampling blood collection system that collects blood using either an aspiration or vacuum principle of collection. The aspiration method of collection virtually eliminates syringe draws and provides a closed connection for line draws with no sample transfer. All tubes are plastic with screw caps, which minimizes the risk of breakage and aerosol formation when caps are removed. Sarstedt’s Safety Needle is designed specifically to work with the S-Monovette blood collection system, utilizing an integral needle protector and three-pin locking mechanism. Also available is the Safety-Multifly winged blood collection set with a translucent needle protector for one-handed activation immediately after use.
