Mobile computer
Metrologic Instruments has released its SP5700 OptimusPDA mobile device which incorporates a Microsoft Windows-based platform, bar code scanning and advanced wireless technologies into a lightweight and durable device. By supporting access to wireless standards (Bluetooth and WiFi 802.11 b and g) with faster download speeds and higher bandwidth, the OptimusPDA provides a versatile solution for increasing productivity and responsiveness in mobile applications. WiFi-Protected Access security measures engineered directly into the mobile computer’s firmware ensures information remains confidential.

Endoscopic instrument brush kit
Spectrum Surgical Instruments Corp. has assembled 42 brushes in designing their endoscopic instrument cleaning brush kit. Using surgical stainless steel twisted wire shafts and white, medical-grade anti-microbial bristles (patent pending), this collection of brushes offers the diameters and lengths to assist in cleaning take-apart instruments, suction irrigators, and all other types of instruments used in endoscopic procedures. All brushes are reusable and are packaged in units of three.

Set saver
for IV safety

PadLock Set Saver aseptic IV admin-istration set storage solution can be swabbed and re-used. PadLock provides a secure seal for the end of the admin-istration set, preventing contamination when the set is not being used for infusion. Effective for multiple uses, the set saver attaches to an IV admin-istration set and replaces the need for sterile, single-use caps. The device helps promote best practice for aseptic IV administration set disconnections, preventing touch contamination and securing the IV line in between drug administrations.

Bed curtain
Simply Sixty Six, an innovation in hospital bed curtains, features a 66 square inch snap-panel which is fastened to an easily detachable row of buttons along the top part of the curtain. The snap panel allows each 66 inch section to be removed and added one at a time. Safety mesh is located above the buttons which permits sprinkler water to pass through in case of a fire. Hospital health codes require that the entire cubicle curtain if it gets soiled. With Simply Sixty Six, if a patient or member of the hospital staff soils a small section of a regular cubicle curtain they can replace a piece without removing the entire curtain for laundering.

Medication management
SinglePointe total automated patient-specific medication management solution helps reduce risk of medication errors and boosts efficiency. The combination of the SinglePointe solution with a bedside bar code verification system, and the addition of a mobile cart solution from Omnicell’s agreement to acquire Rioux Vision, offers closed-loop medication management, administration and dispensing. An auto-assign process matches patient-specific locations with patients and medications that are not routinely stocked in the dispensing system.

Gel warmers
Parker Laboratories introduces two THERMASONIC Gel Warmers; a new single bottle gel warmer and a newly designed three-bottle gel warmer. The 3-bottle gel warmer features an adjustable thermostat control and, heat indicator lamp, identifying when the heating element is on or when the desired temperature has been reached, and an illuminated power switch. It warms three dispenser size couplant bottles simultaneously and comes with a 2 year warranty. The gel warmers allow couplants to be applied at body temperature, promoting patient comfort and receptivity.

Masimo Patient SafetyNet is an easy to use remote monitoring and clinician notification system that combines the “gold standard” performance of Masimo SET pulse oximetry with wireless notification via pager to provide a new level of safety to patients on general care floors, where nurse-to-patient ratios preclude the level of direct surveillance required and recommended to preempt sentinel events.

Medical equipment cart

Smart bed monitoring

Stryker’s new iBed Awareness option is an only-in-class, fully customizable bed status indicator. With the touch of a button, iBed Awareness allows a caregiver to set a bed in a certain status according to specific patient care needs. If the status changes in any way, the bed alerts the caregiver either visually, audibly or through the nurse call system depending on configuration.
