The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the Bureau of Labor
Statistics (BLS) is a family of indexes that measure the average change
over time in prices from the purchaser’s perspective. Each CPI measures
price changes from a reference period, called a base year, that equals
100.0, which can be expressed in dollars. The overall reference period

Related Support Activities; Petroleum & Coal Products;
Chemical Products; Plastics & Rubber Products; Nonmetallic
Mineral Products; Primary Metals; Fabricated Metal Products;
Machinery; Computer & Electronic Products; Electrical
Equipment, Appliances & Components; Transportation Equipment;
Furniture & Related Products; and Miscellaneous Manufacturing
(products such as medical equipment and supplies and office
supplies). A PMI reading above 50 percent indicates that the
manufacturing economy is generally expanding; below 50 percent
