The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is a family of indexes that measure the average change over time in prices from the purchaser’s perspective. Each CPI measures price changes from a reference period, called a base year, that equals 100.0, which can be expressed in dollars. The overall reference period is 1982-1984.
