Pensiamo, the independent cognitive supply chain company recently formed by UPMC in collaboration with IBM, has named Joe Walsh as executive vice president of operations. He previously served as vice president and chief purchasing officer of the award-winning supply chain at Intermountain Healthcare.

Walsh joins a team of healthcare professionals at Pensiamo, including Patrick Flaherty, executive vice president of strategic sourcing, and Mary Beth Lang, executive vice president of cognitive analytics. Both previously held supply chain leadership positions at UPMC, where they helped the organization achieve numerous accolades as one of the leading health care supply chain operations.

Pensiamo, created in July, combines UPMC’s supply chain expertise with many of IBM’s world-class procurement capabilities. By applying IBM Watson Health technology for its supply chain customers, Pensiamo aims to unlock new insights from the volumes of structured and unstructured data that exists on medical products and treatments to drive better decisions across the purchasing process.
