The American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Next Generation Leaders Fellowship, focused on empowering leaders to bring about real and lasting change in healthcare, announced its latest class of fellows consisting of 41 individuals, including 10 Age-Friendly Fellows supported by The John A. Hartford Foundation.
America’s hospitals and health systems are transforming to meet the changing needs of patients and communities by developing leaders with bold perspectives and specialized skills – from technology and data analytics to population health and business-model transformation. Tomorrow’s leaders must have the knowledge, skills and adaptability to navigate change and create a culture of innovation, accountability and inclusion.
"Our 2023 class will be prepared to manage change in the face of uncertainty, solve complex problems and improve value in healthcare," said Michelle Hood, AHA’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. "This fellowship experience provides an opportunity for participants to explore new solutions for the myriad of challenges and disruptions in the healthcare system."
Fellows hail from 23 states across urban, suburban, and rural communities, each making significant contributions to their respective hospitals through a wide range of roles, including quality, risk management, nursing, market intelligence, business development and geriatrics.
During the 12-month long fellowship program, participants will be navigating the new healthcare environment, expanding innovation capacity, effecting positive organizational change, driving digital transformation, and leading the shift from healthcare to well care.
Each fellow is carefully matched with a mentor for personalized guidance. Fellows will work one-on-one with their mentors to execute a transformation project specific to a challenge within their organization, culminating with each fellow presenting their project solution at the 2023 AHA Leadership Summit to their peers, faculty and other conference attendees.
Accenture is the corporate sponsor of AHA’s Next Generation Leaders Fellowship. The John A. Hartford Foundation is providing scholarships for a cohort of Age-Friendly Fellows who will participate in this year’s class as part of the Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative focused on improving the care of older adults.
