The AMA has posted results from a survey about the use of augmented intelligence by physicians.
Adoption rates of digital health and AI “soared from 38% to 66% over the last year.” The survey found that “at least 68% of physicians see some advantage in using AI in their practices…[and] 70% of physicians want to be involved from design to implementation to integration.”
A new branch of the AMA, called the AMA Center for Digital Health and AI, is now launching to address policy and regulatory leadership surrounding the adoption of AI; clinical workflow integration; education and training; and collaboration / building “partnerships across the tech, research, government, and healthcare sectors to drive innovation aligned with patient needs.”
One of the top uses for AI is “documentation, with tools helping with tasks such as translation and creating discharge summaries.” Physicians report that AI scribes save “anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes a day of documentation time.” The AI tools have also been used “in large populations to identify undetected diseases.” Completion rates for in-home programs also grow when AI tools are used to assist patients with “wearables, pouches, and phones.”
