COVID-19 Numbers on the Rise in U.S., According to CDC
Many parts of the country are experiencing “consistent increases” in COVID-19 activity, according to updates from CDC. CIDRAP has the news.
The main markers the CDC uses to gauge virus activity – “test positivity, emergency department (ED) visits, and hospitalizations” – are all rising, “especially in seniors and especially in western states.” The percentage of ED visits “rose 23.5% last week compared to the week before” and test positivity “rose slightly to 11%” at the national level.
In addition, wastewater detections “have risen from low to high,” presaging higher rates of COVID infection. Currently, the western part of the country is seeing the highest levels of wastewater detection, but numbers are rising sharply in the south and smaller rises are also seen in the midwest and northeast.
The CDC also noted that the proportion of KP.3 detections is continuing to rise, “up from 31.3% to 36.9% over the 2-week monitoring period” before July 6.
