New CDC Guidance Removes Routine COVID-19 Vaccinations for Healthy Children and Pregnant Women

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced CDC's removal of routine COVID-19 vaccinations for healthy children and pregnant women, aligning with new FDA regulations.

On May 27, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that the CDC is no longer advising routine COVID-19 vaccinations for healthy children and pregnant women.

This change means COVID-19 vaccines have been taken off the CDC's recommended immunization schedule for these groups, with the update taking effect right away. Previously, the CDC had encouraged vaccination for everyone aged six months and older.

Kennedy commented on X, saying, “This is a smart and science-based decision. It brings us closer to fulfilling the President’s goal of Making America Healthy Again.”

This update follows the FDA's recent introduction of a new regulatory system for COVID-19 vaccine approvals. The new rules may limit access to updated vaccines this fall for healthy people under 65. However, boosters will still be available for seniors and individuals over six months old who have health conditions that put them at higher risk.
