According to an American Hospital Association press release, on June 5, Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Rep. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) reintroduced the SEPSIS Act, aiming to enhance the CDC’s role in improving sepsis care. The bill directs the CDC to lead public education efforts, bolster pediatric data collection, collaborate with HHS on data sharing, and develop a national sepsis outcome measure.

It also mandates a congressional briefing and CDC report, and establishes a voluntary recognition program for hospitals demonstrating progress in sepsis care. The AHA endorsed the bill’s focus on education and streamlined outcome measurement.
