The South Carolina measles outbreak reported only one new case in recent days, standing currently at 997. CIDRAP has the news.

The relative lack of new cases suggests the outbreak “may be nearing containment.” There are currently only eight people in quarantine and none in isolation, “the lowest numbers recorded since the outbreak began.” 639 of the 997 cases are “among children ages 5 to 17 years, and 263 are in those under the age of 5 years.” The vast majority of the case patients (94%) are unvaccinated.

The U.S. has tracked 1,362 measles cases since January 1, which puts it on a record-setting track. 30 states are currently reporting measles cases. North Dakota, for instance, has reported 26 cases so far this year after observing no activity since 2011.
