Premier teaming with Biden Administration to aid healthcare supply chain

May 25, 2022

Premier, Inc., announced its new role in the Biden Administration’s Healthcare and Public Health (HPH) Sector Joint Supply Chain Resilience Working Group.

This team will offer near-real-time information-sharing and collaboration to tackle current and emerging risks and build toward a more agile, transparent and robust U.S. public health supply chain.

The working group was convened to assist in the implementation of the National Strategy for a Resilient Public Health Supply Chain, and Premier’s Soumi Saha, Vice President of Advocacy, has been named to the executive committee.

“The pandemic illuminated our supply chain gaps, but it’s also unveiled a roadmap for resilience,” said Michael J. Alkire, President and CEO, Premier. “For more than two decades, Premier has led in developing innovative solutions to protect our nation’s healthcare providers and patients from shortages, drive supply chain innovation and increase the domestic and diverse manufacturing of critical products. We thank the Administration for the opportunity to join this critical working group to help eliminate vulnerabilities and ensure a stronger U.S. healthcare supply chain for the future.”

“In and out of a pandemic, Premier has worked in close collaboration with healthcare providers, manufacturers, distributors and government organizations to help ensure access to the supplies, data and intelligence needed now and for the future,” said Saha. “I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to work with members of this public-private working group to advance our critical work in protecting and bolstering our nation’s healthcare supply chain.”

“Data is the foundation of risk management and transparency – and necessary to modernize our nation’s supply chain infrastructure,” added Alkire. “With supply chain mapping and risk scoring to real-time data on hospital demand and inventory levels, Premier is a clear leader in technology and data for greater disruption prediction, prevention, and mitigation.”

More than 200 industry and government partners have come together to establish the Joint Supply Chain Resilience Working Group as a formal working group of the Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council.

Through subject-specific task groups of experts, the Joint Supply Chain Resilience Working Group brings together implementation teams, federal experts, and the private sector to achieve three priority objectives:

  • Foster information-sharing;
  • Collaborate to identify supply chain resilience priorities; and
  • Ensure that the path to a more resilient healthcare and public health supply chain is jointly established by the federal government and industry partners.
