Premier and 47 national trade associations, health systems and hospitals, pharmacy associations and small businesses throughout the country voiced support for the Mitigating Emergency Drug Shortages (MEDS) Act (S. 2723).
The MEDS Act builds upon the prior work of Congress to provide additional authority to the FDA to help mitigate drug shortages and develop market-based incentives to help ensure a stable supply of medications critical for patient care.
In the letter, the organizations applaud Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Tina Smith (D-MN) for introducing the bill and for their bipartisan commitment to addressing drug shortages and decreasing healthcare costs while improving patient outcomes.
