ASPR and Premix Oy, Inc. Open New Manufacturing Facility in North Carolina
According to a June 10 press release, John Knox, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), joined Finland’s Ambassador to the United States, Leena-Kaisa Mikkola, and executives from Premix Oy, Inc., at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new manufacturing facility in Dallas, North Carolina. The facility is expected to increase domestic production of pipette tip materials used in diagnostics and life sciences and add 40 jobs to the local area.
The facility will produce 1,210 tons of Carbon Black per month. This medical-grade compound is designed for use in diagnostic and life science applications, where chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and contaminant-free processing are required.
Pipette tips are used regularly in clinical and research settings for tasks such as disease testing, blood analysis, and drug development. A consistent supply of both pipette tips and the materials used to produce them is considered important for supporting healthcare operations and emergency preparedness.
ASPR’s Center for Industrial Base Management and Supply Chain (IBMSC), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, previously provided approximately $80 million in funding to Premix Oy, Inc. to support expansion of domestic production capacity for resin compounds used in pipette tip manufacturing.
The facility opening reflects an ongoing federal initiative to expand domestic manufacturing capabilities for critical medical supplies.
