Vizient Announces Expansion of Partnership With Baxter to Include IV Fluids
Vizient has announced the expansion of their Vizient Reserve Program to “include IV fluids through a strategic partnership with Baxter…to help ensure reliable access to these critical products during times of supply disruption.”
The program will provide “participating healthcare organizations with dedicated, on-demand manufacturer inventory, warehoused in the U.S., along with comprehensive support to safeguard continuity of care.” This expansion of Vizient Reserve comes less than a year after “Hurricane Helene hit the east coast, temporarily disrupting supply of this critical product,” which HPN reported on at the time. IV fluids are a uniquely complex category “due to their essential nature, high utilization, and complex manufacturing requirements.”
This partnership represents a “deliberate, long-term strategy to promote resiliency and help healthcare providers prepare for and manage the pressures that natural disasters and increased demand have put on the supply of the critical healthcare category.” Dan Kistner at Vizient touts the expansion as building on the success of the company’s “NES Reserve program in the pharmaceutical space.” That program “provides up to six months of additional dedicated manufacturer inventory for essential medications.”
