    Triclosan alternatives for hand hygiene

    In light of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s final rule requiring triclosan to be phased out of antimicrobial soaps, DebMed is offering healthcare institutions a complete product suite of triclosan alternatives available immediately. The Kindest Kare Advanced Antimicrobial Handwash is available in liquid and foam (active benzalkonium chloride) and were tested in accordance with FDA proposed clinical methods for Healthcare Personnel. Designed for frequent hand washing by healthcare workers, the products are also fragrance and dye-free. DebMed’s BactoShield two percent CHG offers a thicker formulation for less run-off and better lathering while providing rapid, persistent bactericidal action against a broad spectrum of microorganisms including MRSA and VRE.

    NeoMed has released the ENFit filtered blunt needle which is commonly used with oral/enteral medications such as caffeine. The blunt needle features an ENFit connection, allowing ENFit syringe users to draw up oral/enteral medications from manufacturers’ vials, ampules, and other containers. It comes packaged sterile and features a 5µm filter for filling from glass ampules. The 18 gauge stainless steel needle with an angled tip allows for easy penetration through a vial’s rubber membrane. The needle comes assembled with a protective sheath and is 38 mm long for easy use with most vials.

    To help pregnant and nursing women qualify for breast pumps through insurance and the Affordable Care Act, Aeroflow Breastpumps, a subsidiary of Aeroflow Healthcare, launched a free, online national directory of lactation consultants. The Lactation Support Directory features over 600 experts who are available to help moms with breastfeeding questions and offer support. The directory, which is expected to grow as new professionals and groups are added, allows women to connect with local International Board Certified Lactation Consultants, Certified Lactation Specialists, Certified Lactation Counselors and Registered Nurses for office visits and/or help at home. The Lactation Consultant Directory also gives industry experts and professionals a resource to establish relationships with new patients and strengthen touch-points with existing ones.
