How to Effectively Disinfect Air in Your Healthcare Facility

March 16, 2021

SARS-CoV-2 is only one of the many pathogens that make air contamination a risk for patients, staff, and visitors. Many healthcare facilities are struggling to meet or maintain the new guidelines, standards, and regulations for air quality especially if their facility has outdated HVAC systems resulting in poor ventilation. Healthcare organizations can significantly improve ventilation using supplemental or adjunct technology to boost air exchanges and remove airborne particles. CDC recommends if options for increasing room ventilation are limited to consider using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as a supplement. Upper-room UVGI can be used to provide air cleaning within occupied spaces. This discussion will review current recommendations and air cleaning solutions for healthcare facilities to effectively mitigate not only COVID-19 risks but also reduce the risk of exposure and spread of disease from viruses, bacteria, and molds.
