University of Colorado Hospital Reduces Capacity of SPD Because of Complaint Investigation

The nature of the investigation is not known, but the department is bringing in more people to make sure the volume of cleaned instruments returns to normal.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Education (CDPHE) confirmed that it is “conducting a ‘complaint investigation’ at the UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus,” according to reporting from Denver’s local 9News.

The hospital’s SPD is “currently operating at reduced capacity,” which is leading to the postponement of some elective cases to “ensure [they] have the instruments needed to provide all urgent and emergent surgeries and procedures.” Additionally, the number of staff members working in the SPD has been increased to return the volume of cleaned equipment to normal.

CDPHE said “its health facilities division began a complaint investigation after receiving a concern from the public, which is standard procedure.” The details of the investigation itself have not been released yet, as it is ongoing.

The public health agency said the results of the investigation will be posted online once it is complete. The agency compiles a “’find and compare’ webpage, which includes inspection reports, citations, and corrective action plans for health facilities across the state.”
