AHA introduces Well-Being Playbook to combat burnout

May 20, 2019

The American Hospital Association Physician Alliance is offering a free resource to help hospital and health system leaders address burnout in their organizations. The Well-being Playbook, says AHA, highlights seven key steps for success and provides real-world examples of successful interventions deployed in hospital and health system settings, as well as studies and tools others have found effective.

Burnout has become so pervasive, says the authors of an AACN Critical Care Nurse Work Environment Study, that the National Academy of Medicine launched a major initiative promoting clinician well-being, combatting burnout, and developing the skill of resilience. The initiative includes an extensive knowledge hub and information on solutions to improve patient care by caring for caregivers.

The Well-Being Playbook offers a variety of resources, case studies and advice for implementing seven steps to organizational well-being:

·   create infrastructure for well-being

·   engage your team

·   measure well-being

·   design interventions

·   implement pilots

·   evaluate impact

·   create a sustainable culture

For more on strategies to prioritize and foster clinician well-being, AHA invites people to register to attend a webinar on the playbook May 30 at 1 p.m. ET.
