Enrollment open for AHRQ’s Safety Program for Improving Surgical Care and Recovery

June 19, 2019

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), in an email bulletin, announced that its Safety Program for Improving Surgical Care and Recovery (ISCR) is enrolling hospitals to participate in a 12-month program that starts September 1, 2019. AHRQ says participants will implement a program to improve recovery after gynecologic, colorectal, or hip fracture/joint replacement surgeries using evidence-based enhanced recovery pathways, coaching and content calls with experts in the field, and other resources.

The project is designed to help hospitals implement evidence-based practices to improve outcomes and prevent complications among patients who undergo surgery. Enhanced recovery pathways include preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative practices that decrease complications and accelerate recovery. A number of studies and meta-analyses have demonstrated successful results from the use of these pathways.

Register for informational webinars on June 20 at 4 p.m. ET or June 27 at 1:00 p.m. ET.

The ISCR project is funded and guided by AHRQ and led by the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, in collaboration with the American College of Surgeons.
