National Nurses Week focuses on career elevation

Founded by the American Nurses Association (ANA), National Nurses Week – observed May 6 to May 12, which is the birthday of the legendary Florence Nightingale – the organization will share one story each day to celebrate the difference nurses make in people’s lives while offering free resources to help nurses elevate their careers and boost their say on how healthcare is delivered. 

Nurses, hospitals, and other healthcare stakeholders are encouraged to download the National Nurses Week Resource Toolkit, which includes materials to help promote this annual observance in local communities and in the media.

ANA is offering a free webinar and Twitter chat during National Nurses Week called Nurses4Us: Elevating the Profession! The webinar is presented by ANA president Ernest Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN, and Faith Roberts, MSN, RN, Director Magnet, Professional Practice and Parish Nursing, Carle Foundation Hospital and Carle Physician Group.

The experts will discuss ways nurses can:

·   Increase professional presence beyond hospital walls

·   Have a say in how nursing is practiced

·   Apply skills and knowledge to create a healthier population – starting in your own community

·   Participate in efforts to elevate more nurses into leadership positions

·   Contribute their voice to advocate for higher standards in healthcare

·   Hear inspiring stories of nurses shaping healthcare

·   Learn how to further professional presence
