Bleeding sealant

Ethicon, part of Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies, launched VISTASEAL Fibrin Sealant (Human) to help surgeons manage bleeding during surgery. The sealant contains a combination of fibrinogen and thrombin, clotting proteins found in human plasma. When applied to the bleeding site, it forms a rapid, durable clot and is demonstrated to sustain hemostasis (stoppage of bleeding), even in high-risk patients. It comes in pre-filled syringes and is the first of its kind exclusively designed to be sprayed without gas in open and minimally invasive procedures. Its dual applicator tip is malleable enabling access to difficult anatomy.

HD duodenoscope

PENTAX Medical announced the U.S. launch of its DEC HD Duodenoscope for imaging during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography procedures. The duodenoscope features a lightweight, ergonomic control body and multiple disposable components, including the sterile distal cap and elevator lever, for unit reprocessing. Its design aligns with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance on reducing endoscope reprocessing. It allows physicians to simply and safely dispose of the elevator, the component most vulnerable to enteric bacteria, and helps to reduce the risk of bioburden remaining on conventional elevator components after reprocessing.
