Cardinal Health opens new facility in East Hartford, CT

Aug. 4, 2022

Cardinal Health announced the grand opening of its newest facility in East Hartford, CT. The facility will support the company’s Aero-Med business, which focuses on manufacturing and distributing specimen collection kits.

This is the latest in a series of facility openings from Cardinal Health’s Medical Segment and helps celebrate Aero-Med’s 15th year serving hospitals, reference labs and testing organizations with customized collection kits.

The new 110,000 square feet facility will replace its previous lab kitting space in Glastonbury, CT, which was 55,000 square feet and spanned across five buildings. Operating as one, centralized warehouse, the new facility will accommodate a full transition of existing employees, create job opportunities, and serve as the hub for the Aero-Med business.

With the acceleration of decentralized care and the growing focus on wellness and prevention, Cardinal Health is supporting the increasing need of shipping condition-specific kits directly to a patient’s home on behalf of health systems, payors and direct-to-consumer testing organizations.

“As we reflect on the past 15 years of innovation, we recognize that our business sits at the intersection of a developing market with exponential potential,” said Emily Berlin, vice president of marketing, strategy, commercial sales, and operations at Cardinal Health. “The East Hartford facility will not only help us further centralize our lab kitting services and expand our capabilities in this space, but also reinforces our commitment to providing patients the best possible care by optimizing operations for our customers.”

Producing more than 50 million specimen collection kits annually, the Aero-Med division is a top growth initiative for the Laboratory Products business.

Employing nearly 200 employees, Cardinal Health’s new Aero-Med facility is proud to support the growth of the East Hartford region.

“This new facility is just the latest example of Cardinal Health’s investment into the region,” said Jeff Grote, director of operations at the East Hartford facility. “We’re excited for the opportunities the new warehouse brings to grow East Hartford economically and provide quality jobs to the region.”
