Vizient receives award from the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council
Vizient, Inc. has received a Supplier Leadership Award from the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC) for significant leadership in executing and supporting sustainable purchasing initiatives.
SPLC presented its 2018 Supplier Leadership Award to Vizient for helping standardize environmentally preferable purchasing across the entire healthcare sector through the development of a standard set of environmentally preferred attributes for healthcare procurement, said Vizient in a release. The work was completed through meetings with Vizient members and contracted suppliers.
“As a leader in the healthcare industry for sourcing and contracting, and because providers are demanding more options for environmentally preferred products, we believed it was important that Vizient take steps to help align all industry stakeholders on a common set of environmentally preferred attributes when evaluating product options,” stated Cristina Indiveri, Vizient senior director, strategic programs in the release.
Vizient was among forty organizations honored at the SPLC Leadership Awards ceremony.
Sustainable purchasing – where organizations use their purchasing power to advance the long term health and vitality of society, economies, and the planet – is gaining momentum around the world, as purchasing organizations recognize the social and environmental impact of their procurement, and suppliers embrace sustainability as a critical element of their value proposition, asserted Vizient.
In early May 2019, the group purchasing organization also launched a new portfolio of eco-friendly hospital furniture, increasing its Environmentally Preferred Sourcing (EPS) program to 450,000 items.
