Sealed Air’s Diversey Care division introduces the SKY 7xi, a mobile device disinfection solution for healthcare environments. In one minute or less, SKY safely disinfects tablets and smart phones with high-intensity ultraviolet (UV) light that penetrates the cells of pathogens such as viruses, bacteria and spores. It achieves up to a 5-log reduction in harmful pathogens including MRSA, VRE, MDR-Gram negative, norovirus and C. diff spores. High-touch surfaces such as phones and tablets are potential sources of healthcare associated infections. With desktop, wall mount and mobile cart options, SKY is portable and easy to use, enabling fast and effective disinfection of facility-owned, healthcare worker and visitor devices.

A new electrosurgical device from Olympus, the SB Knife Monopolar ESD Knife is now available in the U.S. This scissors-type device, named for the shape of the pincers of a stag beetle (SB), is used in Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) to remove early gastric cancers that have not entered the muscle layer. The minimally invasive endoscopic procedure allows the physician to perform en-bloc resection of larger lesions (defined as specimen removal as a single piece) and can help the patient avoid open surgery.
COOLIEF Cooled Radiofrequency (Cooled RF) thermal treatment from Halyard Health was approved by FDA for the relief of chronic moderate to severe knee pain caused by osteoarthritis (OA). COOLIEF RF is a minimally invasive, thermal radiofrequency pain management system using water-cooled technology to safely deactivate pain-causing sensory nerves. Designed especially for patients who cannot undergo surgery, this new clearance is based on results from a 151-patient prospective, randomized multi-center study comparing COOLIEF Cooled RF to intra-articular steroid injections in patients suffering from OA knee pain. In 74.1 percent of the cooled RF patient group, pain was reduced by at least 50 percent at six months and maintained in over 65.4 percent of those patients for a full 12 months post procedure.
