Joint Commission revisions to requirements for hospices to align with CMS final rule

Feb. 24, 2022

To align with the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations for hospices published in the Federal Register on Aug. 4, 2021, The Joint Commission has revised three elements of performance (EPs) applicable to hospices that elect The Joint Commission’s deemed status option.

Two EP changes also will apply to home health organizations that use Joint Commission accreditation for deemed status purposes. These revisions are effective immediately.

In response to the final rule, The Joint Commission revised: Human Resources (HR) Standard HR.01.03.01, EP 24 and HR.01.06.01, EPs 9 and 10.

In addition, The Joint Commission adopted CMS’ definitions of pseudo-patient and simulation and added them to the Glossary.
